Music Teacher Coffee Talk · MTCT Episode #67: Refocusing the Conversation on Race in Music Education We want to  be clear that we know we cannot proceed with business as usual. The murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and others highlight the long-standing problem of systemic racism in our society. We have work to do as individuals and as educators. The presence of overall white-centered culture in education demands that we all act. It is not enough to be not-racist, we must strive to be anti-racist. We recognize our privilege as white people and know there is work to be done within our own personal education. As music educators, we should do the work of 1. De-centering whiteness as the default culture, 2. Examining and changing our song repertoire, and 3. Music Teacher Coffee Talk · MTCT Episode #66: Summer Plans to Prepare for the Unknown In this episode, Carrie and Tanya discuss summer plans to prepare for the unknown 2020-2021 school year.  At this time, we are not sure if we will be back in the classroom with students, doing distance learning, or some sort of hybrid of both.  It can be a scary and daunting time for music educators to look ahead because so many things are unknown.  However, it's important to be proactive and do things know to plan and advocate for our programs as we look forward.

In this episode, Tanya and Carrie welcome Aileen Miracle and Katie Minneci from The Music Room podcast , and we discuss closure for the end of the school year during distance learning.  We all share ideas on how to wrap up instruction, celebrate and reflect on the year, and say goodbye to our students.
