Episode #65: Closure During Distance Learning with Aileen Miracle and Katie Minneci

In this episode, Tanya and Carrie welcome Aileen Miracle and Katie Minneci from The Music Room podcast, and we discuss closure for the end of the school year during distance learning.  We all share ideas on how to wrap up instruction, celebrate and reflect on the year, and say goodbye to our students.

Ideas we discussed:
  • Have students share their favorite songs and activities from the year on a platform such as Nearpod, Peardeck, Flipgrid, or Google Forms
  • Students can help create a memory book in Google Slides sharing favorite songs and activities from the year
  • Create a Music Field day hyperdoc with choices for active music making activities
  • Students can share and reflect on projects they are finishing
  • Create a digital recital with Flipgrid where students can perform by singing, playing instruments, or dancing
  • Attend virtual "clap out" ceremonies and goodbye celebrations for 5th or 6th graders who are leaving elementary school
  • Create a digital end of the year escape room using Thinglink to link to tasks students can complete on Kahoot, Google Forms, and Google Slides
  • Organize a 5th or 6th grade continuation "performance" video where students share a response to a question on Flipgrid and the create a compilation of responses with background music to share with students and families
  • Share a campfire song unit on Thinglink with links to family-friendly songs that students and their families can enjoy all summer
  • Host a final live sing-a-long on Google Meet or Zoom to sing student favorites they vote on in a survey
  • Students reflect on music they enjoy in and outside of school (on a Google Form or Flipgrid) and create a Spotify playlist to share with them based on their responses
